| Job Description: | Position Summary: Develops, implements and manages the Environmental Initiatives programs.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of Utilities & Environmental Initiatives. Exercises direct supervision over the Global Warming Project Coordinator and the Global Warming Data Analyst. Develops, implements and manages Environmental Initiatives programs. Analyses success of current and past programs in order to adjust current and future programs to ensure objectives are met. Initiates renewable energy initiatives in support of climate sustainability goals which may include the development of geothermal resources. Responsible for reducing city government and community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Monitors energy usage in transportation and buildings. Provides resources to city staff and the general public about GHG emission inventory and reduction strategies. Manages updates to GHG Emissions Inventory and Climate Impact Assessment. Manages or assists in the management of GHG reduction projects. Manages City’s participation in Chicago Climate Exchange. Reviews, updates and implements the Canary Action Plan and policies related to GHG. Plans, coordinates, supervises and directs the activities of personnel including hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, establishing performance goals, delegation, and problem solving, counseling, evaluating performance and providing appropriate feedback. Utilizes multiple media methods to inform the public of environmental initiatives programs. Provides outreach and assistance to businesses, to help them reduce their GHG emissions. Encourages state and federal policy adoption in support of City of Aspen goals. Serves as liaison to the Colorado Climate Project and other regional working groups, committees, and other associated organizations. Monitors grant opportunities specific to utilities and environmental initiatives. Prepares, coordinates and submits grant applications. |
| Job Requirements: | Minimum Requirements to be Considered for this Position:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school, college or university in Energy and Environmental Management or Physical Science or related field. Three (3) years Professional experience in energy management or climate sustainability including two (2) years of supervisory experience. Computer Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Email. Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date. Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.
