CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research (CMAR) are currently seeking a Research Scientist to conduct research on climate change science, risk assessment, adaptation and vulnerability. This position will be in Aspendale, Victoria, Australia.

Specifically the role will involve:


Working closely with scientists and other professionals in CSIRO, universities, industry and government agencies undertaking research on climate change vulnerability assessment;

Developing innovative approaches for vulnerability assessment, including risk framing and evaluation, adaptive capacity metrics, links between biophysical and social and economic impacts, levels of gdangeroush climate change, and management of uncertainty;

Researching the processes for translating assessments into policy as part of a broader adaptation plan;

Publishing technical reports, consultancy reports and journal papers. Communicating results through seminars, workshops and conference presentations; and

Managing projects from client engagement to delivery, on time and on budget.

Job Requirements: To be considered you will hold a PhD in environmental science/policy or an equivalent field, have at least 3 years postdoctoral research experience in environmental sciences, and can demonstrate:


A good understanding of climate change science and risk assessment frameworks;

Experience in statistical analysis;

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated experience in publishing papers in scientific journals and presenting material at workshops and conferences; and

An ability to engage clients to determine their needs and take responsibility for client satisfaction.
